Cave diving in Belize

1 cave systems1 entrances and sites1 providers

The main submerged karst feature documented for Belize in this edition is the Great Blue Hole on Lighthouse Reef, a collapsed ice-age cave about 125 m deep whose walls carry drowned stalactites. Published dive descriptions focus on the stalactite-hung overhangs, and no cave penetration route is published. No other publicly documented cave-diving sites in Belize were confirmed for this edition.

How access works

The Great Blue Hole is protected as the Blue Hole Natural Monument, part of the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System World Heritage Site. Visitors arrive with tour operators and pay a daily entrance fee; private vessels must contact the Half Moon Caye rangers before mooring.
