Level 2 - Intermediate, Training drills permitted only in defined areas

Level 2 - Intermediate: CREER cenote level (guided cavern diving) [1] [2] (CREER describes Level 2 as shallow but with smaller passages, limited natural light and a halocline.). Training drills permitted only in defined areas: CREER approved cave training site [3] (Area between the Ts at the end of the Canyons and Madonna passage, and Hall of Giants to the Fang jump; no zero-visibility training in Madonna or Canyons passages.). These categories are the named scheme's own; they describe the training a site calls for.

A cenote known to divers as the Temple of Doom, rated Level 2 (Intermediate) by CREER, with designated cave training areas; CREER noted improved water clarity in 2024 after a nearby laundry closed.

Calavera, nicknamed the Temple of Doom, appears on CREER's cenote list as a Level 2 (Intermediate) site with cavern and cave diving open. In February 2024 CREER noted that the water had become clearer since a nearby laundry closed and said it would keep monitoring the cenote and announce when the cavern line became suitable for guided dives again.

CREER's training rules allow drills only in a defined part of the cave: the area between the T-junctions at the end of the Canyons and the Madonna passage, and the Hall of Giants up to the double-arrow 'Fang' jump. Zero-visibility training is explicitly not allowed in the Madonna or Canyons passages. Calavera was also on CREER's April 2024 list of lines needing repair.

The sources consulted do not give a surveyed length, depth or the cave system Calavera belongs to.

Conditions

Water clarity has been affected by nearby land use; CREER reported improvement in February 2024.
