Cenote
Cenote Chikin Ha
Level 1 - Starter: CREER cenote level (guided cavern diving) [1] [2] (Shallow, few depth changes, wide passages, constant natural light (CREER).). Training drills permitted on the cavern line: CREER approved cave training site [3]. These categories are the named scheme's own; they describe the training a site calls for.
A cenote about 25 km from Playa del Carmen with a halocline at about 10 m, rated Level 1 (Starter) by CREER and used as a designated cave training site; closed Saturdays in low season.
Chikin Ha is the first of a group of cenotes linked by more than 10 km of underwater passage, according to Pro Dive International, which describes a dive to the neighbouring Rainbow Cenote where tree roots reach down through the rock to the water. A halocline at about 10 m produces blurred, shimmering visual effects, and the salt water below is noticeably warmer.
CREER rates Chikin Ha Level 1 (Starter) for guided cavern tours, lists cavern and cave diving as open, and notes it closes on Saturdays during the low season. The Chikin Ha cavern line is on CREER's list of approved training locations. As of January 2026 Chikin Ha was one of three cenotes accepting CREER's guide certificate for annual guide registration.
