Cave dive (operator classification)

Cave dive (operator classification): operator zone [1] (Operator lists PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent as the required certification.). These categories are the named scheme's own; they describe the training a site calls for.

A sea-entered cave dive in the Gulf of Orosei, about 30 minutes by boat from Cala Gonone, with an entrance at 8 m leading to a large tunnel and three air-filled chambers with formations.

Argonauta describes Bel Torrente as a cave dive whose entrance lies at 8 m, opening into a large tunnel that leads to the first of three air chambers decorated with rock formations. It gives a depth range of 8 to 14 m.

A July 2023 reader report in Undercurrent describes a shallow dive (about 6 m on the reviewer's computer) in which divers surface inside the cave and swim among stalactites and stalagmites in a large air pocket before leaving underwater, and says the operator checked certifications and logged dives before accepting divers.

ProTec Sardinia describes an entrance about 4 m in diameter lined with oysters and mussels, milky water at first and a halocline where fresh water flows out of the cave; after about 25 minutes divers are fully in clear fresh water, and after about 40 minutes the cave drops to around 21 m and continues.

The environment

A flooded tunnel from the sea into air-filled chambers with formations.

Conditions

A halocline (the boundary between outflowing fresh water and sea water) blurs visibility near the entrance; inside, fresh water is described as crystal clear.

Typical ranges from published sources, not current conditions.
