Autônomo Básico (basic): operator zone [1] [2] (Open Water; maximum 18 m; up to four per instructor; suspended in algae season.). Autônomo Avançado (advanced): operator zone [1] (Advanced Open Water; maximum 30 m; up to four per instructor in the blue season, up to two by consultation in the green season.). Mergulho técnico (technical): operator zone [3] [4] (By consultation, based on the dive plan; no published depth limit.). These categories are the named scheme's own; they describe the training a site calls for.

Blue-water dives down the walls of a flooded sinkhole near Jardim, with published categories from an introductory dive to 8 m to advanced dives to 30 m, and technical diving by consultation. Basic dives pause during the algae season.

Divers reach Lagoa Misteriosa on foot: a trail of about 1,100 m round trip leads to a stairway of 185 steps down to the water at the bottom of the forested doline. Dives follow the steep rock walls of the flooded shaft, past fallen logs, white sand deposits and two deep blue areas the operator describes.

The operator sets limits by certification and season. In the clear-water period, basic dives go to 18 m and advanced dives to 30 m with up to four divers per instructor; in the green-water season advanced dives are by consultation with up to two divers per instructor. Technical dives, which use special gas mixtures and procedures for depths beyond recreational limits, are arranged by consultation on the basis of a dive plan.

All dives are booked through accredited travel agencies. A dive lasts about 30 minutes within a visit of about two hours.

The environment

Clear, still fresh water in a near-vertical sinkhole with rock walls, sunken logs and pale sand ledges. The operator gives a constant 24 °C. Microalgae blooms turn the water green and cut visibility from roughly mid-October to mid-April.

Conditions

Algae season roughly mid-October to mid-April (operator pages differ on the start month); introductory and basic diving and snorkelling are suspended then. A cold front can clear the water temporarily. Heavy rain can cancel or interrupt visits. Press in 2025 described the visiting season as April to September.

Typical ranges from published sources, not current conditions.

Facilities

Trail of about 1,100 m round trip and a 185-step stairway to the water; equipment supplied (short wetsuits only); accident insurance during the activity. The operating group states a safety management system certified to ISO 21101 since 2020.
