Spring
Little River Springs
The spring pool and cave entrance of Little River Springs county park on the Suwannee River; a short cavern drops quickly into a high-flow cave that is affected by river levels.
The head pool is small, up to about 7.5 metres deep, with the cavern entrance in the pool less than a hundred yards from the Suwannee River. The short run gives limited room for swimming, snorkelling and open water diving, and the park can be crowded with local swimmers.
Beyond the cavern the passage narrows and the current strengthens. Divers should check river conditions first: when the Suwannee is high, river water can siphon into the cave.
The environment
Small spring basin (maximum about 7.6 m) with a cavern sloping to roughly 15-20 m and a main passage dropping to about 30 m; strong outflow.
Conditions
About 22°C year-round. River water can siphon into the cave when the Suwannee is high, and tannin staining appears afterwards. Busy with swimmers on warm days.
Typical ranges from published sources, not current conditions.
Facilities
Paved parking, overlook decks, picnic pavilions, portable restrooms.
