Advanced Cave

Advanced Cave: CDAA site rating [1] [3] (Access to the system is restricted to CDAA Advanced Cave divers.). These categories are the named scheme's own; they describe the training a site calls for.

The CDAA-owned main entrance to the Green Waterhole - Tank Cave system, a low maze of flooded passages. Restricted to CDAA Advanced Cave divers with a site access officer present.

Tank Cave is entered through an underground opening that once had a water tank above it. A short ladder leads down to a small pool, which opens into a maze of interconnected passages. A guideline runs through most of the cave, but many side passages can only be reached by bridging between lines, which is why the CDAA reserves the site for Advanced Cave members and uses it for Advanced Cave assessment dives.

The CDAA bought the land over the entrance in 2010 and manages all diving here. Diving days are booked through the CDAA and need a qualified site access officer, and new visitors follow a familiarisation schedule before diving the wider system.

The environment

Fresh water in a maze of intersecting phreatic passages, with a fixed line through much of the cave and many side passages reached by jumps.
