Plongée en Jordan

Illustration générée par IA

Jordan's 27 kilometers of Red Sea coastline concentrate an outsized amount of diving into the Gulf of Aqaba's calm, deep-blue corner. The fringing reefs slope steeply from shore in warm, tideless water, and nearly every site is a beach entry or a five-minute boat hop, which makes Aqaba one of the easiest places anywhere to log relaxed reef dives. The government has doubled down with deliberate sinkings that read like a surrealist museum: a Lockheed TriStar airliner, a C-130 Hercules, an M42 anti-aircraft tank, and a whole underwater military vehicle collection, joining the veteran Cedar Pride freighter wreck draped in soft corals. Visibility is dependable, seasons are long, and Petra and Wadi Rum wait two hours up the Desert Highway, making Jordan the rare country where the diving and the wonders share a long weekend.

Aqaba is the registry destination and the entire coast: the marine park south of town strings together shore-entry reefs like the Japanese Garden, the Cedar Pride wreck, the sunken TriStar airliner and military-vehicle sites, and steep coral slopes toward the Saudi border. Operators run the same sites by boat for surface-interval comfort.

Expériences emblématiques: Finning through the cargo holds of the Cedar Pride; the surreal silhouette of a TriStar airliner on sand; the underwater military museum's tanks and helicopters gathering coral; unhurried shore dives over dense soft coral; Petra and Wadi Rum on the surface days.

Saisons: Aqaba dives all year. Spring and autumn combine warm water with comfortable desert temperatures; summer is very hot topside though fine underwater; winter water cools to the low 20s with cooler, windier evenings. Crowds track Petra's peak seasons more than sea conditions.

Comment s'y rendre: Fly into Amman (AMM) and drive about four hours south, or fly directly to Aqaba (AQJ) on regional and European routes; Aqaba's special economic zone status also smooths arrivals. Dive centers cluster along the southern beach road minutes from town.

Entrée & visas: Visas are available on arrival for many nationalities, and arrivals via Aqaba have historically benefited from waived-fee arrangements tied to its special economic zone, often bundled with the Jordan Pass. Verify current requirements and fee schemes before travel.

Le coût de la plongée: Two-tank guided dives typically run about USD 70-110, with shore-diving packages economical; equipment rental and marine-park fees add modest amounts.

Langue: Arabic is the national language; English is widely spoken in Aqaba's tourism and dive industry.

Pourboires: Tipping is customary and appreciated: round up in taxis and cafes, and give dive guides and boat crews a modest end-of-trip tip.

Sécurité en voyage: Jordan has long been the calm room in a loud neighborhood, and Aqaba's resort corridor is stable and heavily invested in tourism; regional events can dominate headlines without touching daily life there, but check current advisories when booking. Everyday risks are prosaic: desert heat, road driving standards, and fire coral on careless entries.

Couverture caisson hyperbare: A hyperbaric chamber serves the Aqaba area through the local hospital system, minutes from the dive sites. Availability changes; route emergencies through your operator, Jordanian EMS, and DAN.
