In this sheltered Orkney anchorage the interned German High Seas Fleet was scuttled by its own crews on 21 June 1919, and seven of those warships — three König-class battleships and four light cruisers — still lie in the cold, dark water, joined by blockships and a century of harbor history. It is widely held to be Europe's finest wreck diving: big steel at 25-45 meters, dived from famously well-run day boats out of Stromness.
