Madeira
Madeira's diving is a quiet counterpart to its hiking fame: warm-temperate Atlantic water, volcanic reefs, and the tamest dusky groupers in Europe inside the Garajau marine reserve. Two scuttled Portuguese Navy corvettes and a cargo ship off Porto Santo add proper wreck diving. Conditions are gentle by Atlantic standards and the season effectively runs all year, peaking in the warm, clear months of late summer and autumn.
이곳에서 다이빙해야 하는 이유
The draw here is intimacy rather than spectacle. Garajau, created in 1986 as one of Portugal's first strictly marine reserves, protects a population of dusky groupers that have lost all fear of divers — thick-lipped, curious animals that follow groups around like housecats. Volcanic slopes carry moray eels, octopus, bream schools and seasonal visits from mobulas and turtles. Wreck divers get the corvette Afonso Cerqueira, scuttled off the south coast in 2018, and across the channel Porto Santo's sandy shelf holds the Madeirense and the corvette General Pereira d'Eca, both purpose-sunk as artificial reefs. Water clarity is reliably good for the Atlantic, the island's south coast is sheltered from prevailing swell, and dive travel piggybacks on excellent flight connections and mountain-walking infrastructure. Madeira suits divers who want two relaxed tanks a day between levada walks, not a hardcore expedition.
월별
Diveable year-round on the sheltered south coast; September and October combine the warmest water with settled weather. Winter diving continues in decent conditions between Atlantic fronts.
