Skjervoy Orca Grounds

This is not a scuba dive and honest operators never sell it as one. When the herring pack into the fjords around Skjervoy in the polar-night months, orcas carousel-feed among them with humpbacks lunging through the same bait balls, and drysuited snorkelers lie still at the surface while the hunt unfolds below and around them. Sessions are short, cold and directed entirely by spotters reading the whales' behavior; some days deliver passes close enough to hear clicks through your chest, others only blows in the distance. The location itself migrates with the fish between seasons; the constant is the Arctic twilight and the scale of the gathering.

保全: Norwegian guidelines and responsible operators mandate no-chase, no-touch, engine-discipline encounters; scuba is not used around the feeding whales.
