Halliburton 211
我们的故事
Utila built its reputation on cheap certifications and whale sharks, not wrecks, so in 1998 the island's dive shops clubbed together to give themselves a proper one. The Halliburton 211, a small interisland freighter of about 30 meters, was cleaned out, opened up and sent down on a sand flat off the south shore reef line in May that year, settling upright with her wheelhouse intact and her holds gaping invitingly. Sitting with the sand at about 30 meters and the superstructure in the high teens, she is close to the ideal training wreck, and that is exactly how the island uses her: advanced students log their deep dive on her deck, wreck courses run lines through her interior, and fun divers visit the resident life that has accumulated over 25 years. Grouper and snapper crowd the wheelhouse, garden eels fringe the sand, morays den in the machinery, and careful eyes find toadfish grumbling under plates. She is small enough to circle twice in a dive yet complete enough — mast, rails, companionways — to feel like a real ship rather than a prop.
她是如何沉没的: Deliberately scuttled as an artificial reef off Utila's south shore, May 1998.
