Cave diving in Hungary

2 cave systems2 entrances and sites1 providers

Hungarian cave diving centres on thermal-water caves, above all the Molnár János Cave under Budapest, which is surveyed to more than 6 km. Exploration and science are carried out by research diving societies working under national park permits, while recreational divers can visit through a licensed guided-dive operation.

How access works

Cave research, including research diving, is carried out under permits issued by national park directorates (for example the Duna-Ipoly National Park Directorate for the Molnár János Cave and the Balaton-Felvidék National Park Directorate for the Tapolca cave system), and the permit holders file annual research reports. Recreational diving in the Molnár János Cave is sold only as guided dives by the single licensed dive centre.

A general summary; each site page gives its own dated access information.
