Cavern or cave certification to enter the spring vent: Florida State Parks diving rules [1] (Scuba diving is not permitted in the river or other springs in the park.). These categories are the named scheme's own; they describe the training a site calls for.

The only spring in Ichetucknee Springs State Park open to scuba divers; a deep, strong-current spring with a cavern and a small high-flow cave behind the vent, reached by a half-mile trail. Cavern or cave certification is required to enter the vent.

Blue Hole Spring is one of the two swimming springs at the park's north entrance, reached by a half-mile trail; the park suggests divers bring a cart or wheelbarrow for their gear. It is the only place in the park where scuba diving is allowed: diving in the river and the other springs is prohibited.

The spring vent leads into a cavern and, according to Dive Outpost, a small high-flow cave system. Florida State Parks requires cavern or cave certification for anyone entering through the vent, and warns swimmers that Blue Hole is for experienced swimmers only because of its depth and strong current.

The environment

A deep spring basin at a constant 72°F (22°C) with strong outflow from the vent.

Conditions

Strong current at the vent; constant 72°F. Swimmers are advised that Blue Hole is for experienced swimmers only.
