From Port Sudan, liveaboards historically ran to Sanganeb's lighthouse-topped atoll, to Sha'ab Rumi — where remnants of Cousteau's 1963 Precontinent II underwater-living experiment still sit on the reef — and to the Umbria, an Italian ship scuttled in 1940 with its cargo intact, one of the world's great wrecks. That reputation is currently theoretical: armed conflict since April 2023 has halted normal tourism, and this entry documents the diving for reference, not as an invitation to plan travel now.

The registry destination is Port Sudan & Sanganeb: the central Sudanese Red Sea dived by liveaboard from Port Sudan when operations run. Core ground includes Sanganeb atoll's plateaus, Sha'ab Rumi's south plateau and Precontinent II relics, and the Umbria on Wingate Reef near the harbor — a compact circuit that filled classic one-week itineraries.
