Dumaguete, Dauin & Apo Island

Twenty to forty minutes offshore, Apo Island changes the register entirely; village-run protection since the 1980s, developed with Silliman University researchers, rebuilt a reef where green turtles graze in easy reach and jacks stream past coral slopes. The pairing makes the area unusually complete for photographers, and Dumaguete's flights, hospitals, and restaurants keep logistics painless. It is quiet, inexpensive, and adult in tone, a diver's destination rather than a resort scene.
