Kimbe Bay
Kimbe Bay, on the north coast of Papua New Guinea's New Britain, is a deep, sheltered amphitheater scattered with coral seamounts that rise from hundreds of meters to just below the surface. Scientists helped make it famous — surveys have recorded several hundred hard-coral species and roughly 900 reef fish here — and divers keep coming for whip-coral ridges, fan-covered bommies, and blue water that can fill with barracuda without warning.

Further offshore, open-water shoals draw schooling barracuda, bigeye trevally, and passing pelagics, with hammerheads an occasional deep silhouette. Kimbe rewards slow diving: pick a bommie, circle it twice, and let the fish come back to work.
