Mucky Mosque is Alor's answer to Lembeh, dived to the amplified soundtrack of the village mosque above, whose call to prayer arrives underwater with surprising clarity. The bay's sheltered, silty slope is a critter bank: frogfish in several species, mimic and coconut octopus, wonderpus with luck, seahorses, waspfish, and, in good seasons, rhinopias, the muck diver's trophy. Because Kalabahi Bay stays calm when the strait is working itself into a froth, the site doubles as the region's reliable bad-weather option. The contrast defines Alor diving: big-fish chaos at the pinnacles in the morning, then an afternoon nose-down in the sand finding animals the size of a fingernail.
Le moment pour lequel vous venez: Rhinopias potential; mimic octopus and frogfish; a calm counterpoint to the strait's adrenaline sites.
Topographie: Dark sand and silt slope in Kalabahi Bay below a village mosque, scattered with debris and sponge patches.
