Carwash looks like a farm pond and dives like a dream sequence. In the cooler months its water turns glassy and the sun lights a garden of lily stems from below, their pads floating overhead like green parasols, one of the most photographed views in cenote diving. In summer a red-brown tannic layer floats on the surface and tints the light amber, a different mood rather than a flaw. Along one wall the cavern zone opens under a fringe of stalactites for guided passes, and small fish, freshwater turtles, and the site's occasional young crocodile keep the shallows busy.
