Depth is the range from the top of the site to its usual maximum; "recommended cert" is the mainstream-agency level operators usually ask for, not a legal rule. Currents and visibility change daily — treat everything here as planning ranges.

Chac Mool and its sister entrance Kukulkan share a cave and split the spectacle. Kukulkan owns the light: on sunny late mornings, blue laser-sheets slice through the entrance pool and divers take turns hanging in the beams. Chac Mool's circuit runs deeper into rooms where the halocline lies so distinctly you can watch it bow around your buddy like heat haze, and a domed air pocket lets guided groups surface briefly beneath a ceiling of roots and dripstone. Being minutes from Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras, it is many shops' standard introduction to what caverns actually feel like.

The moment you come for: Kukulkan's light beams, textbook halocline, air-dome chamber, close to Playa del Carmen.

Topography: Broad cavern rooms with breakdown slopes, a pronounced halocline, and an air-filled dome above one chamber.

Entry: Two entries share one property near Puerto Aventuras; short walks and platform steps.

Know before you splash

Hazards: Overhead environment; halocline blur can hide the line briefly — keep contact procedures sharp.

Permits & rules: Entrance fee; guided cavern diving only.

Conservation: Heavy daily traffic makes line discipline and anti-silt finning matter even more here.
