Dos Ojos

Dos Ojos is the cenote most divers meet first, and it sets a high bar. Two neighboring sinkholes — the eyes — connect through a broad, shallow cavern where daylight pours in from both sides and the water is so clear the guideline seems suspended in air. The classic Barbie Line circuit stays bathed in blue glow beneath columns and dripstone; the darker Bat Cave line visits a domed room where the ceiling twitches with roosting bats above an air pocket. The shallow depth keeps bottom times long and the experience gentle, which is exactly why it is often the first stamp in a cavern logbook.

The moment you come for: Twin sunlit pools, Barbie and Bat Cave guideline circuits, dense stalactite decoration, long shallow dives.

Topography: White limestone and breakdown boulders beneath a decorated cavern ceiling linking two sinkhole pools.

Current: Still water; only diver traffic disturbs it.

Entry: Stair-and-platform entries into either of the two 'eyes'; gear up at the parking area and walk down.

Hazards: Overhead environment despite the easy profile; silt and fragile formations punish sloppy trim.

Permits & rules: Private park with entrance fee; guided diving only in the cavern zone.

Conservation: Touch nothing — formations grew drop by drop over millennia and skin oils and fin strikes end that. Stay on the line.
