Depth is the range from the top of the site to its usual maximum; "recommended cert" is the mainstream-agency level operators usually ask for, not a legal rule. Currents and visibility change daily — treat everything here as planning ranges.

Punta Tosca, on Socorro's quieter southwestern corner, is the itinerary's wildcard - the site where trip reports diverge most and the surprises cluster. Tiger sharks patrol the boulder slope with some regularity, dolphins sweep through in pods that occasionally stay the whole dive, and mantas round the point on their island circuit. Between headline acts, the terrain itself entertains: lava channels and cuts holding lobster, morays, and dense reef fish, with whitetips on every shelf. In whale season, humpback mothers and calves have been encountered near the point, an event no operator can schedule and no diver forgets. Bring wide-angle and low expectations; the site prefers to overdeliver unannounced.

The moment you come for: Tiger and dolphin wildcards, mantas rounding the point, humpback encounters in season

Topography: Lava ridges, channels, and boulder slopes at Socorro's southwestern corner

Know before you splash

Hazards: Swell exposure at the point; large-animal encounters call for calm, grouped divers.

Nitrox: Worth it here — profiles sit in the range where enriched air meaningfully extends no-stop time (with the training to use it).
