Superman's Flight

The mountain does half the work here. Petit Piton plunges straight into the sea, and the current bending around its base carries divers along the drowned continuation of the spire, a slope quilted with sea whips, vase sponges, and gorgonians nodding in the flow. The site took its name from a flying sequence filmed over the Pitons for Superman II, and the sensation holds up: hands folded, gently airborne, scenery scrolling past. Turtles punctuate the glide, and the shallows at the exit fill with fry balls and needlefish inside the marine reserve.
