Molnár János Cave – Malom-tó spring entrance
Zone 1: operator zone [2] (The operator's rules allow wetsuits only in Zone 1; all other zones are drysuit-only. Zone boundaries are not published in the rules.). These categories are the named scheme's own; they describe the training a site calls for.
The diving entrance to the Molnár János Cave, reached through the licensed dive centre beside Malom-tó in Buda. Guided dives only; groups are capped and the operator publishes its rules and prices.
Divers enter the Molnár János Cave from the dive centre at Frankel Leó út 48, beside the spring-fed Malom-tó (Mill Lake). The operator runs guided cave dives, intro dives for non-cave-certified divers, longer and deeper guided dives, and night dives.
The dive centre publishes detailed general rules: every diver signs a dive plan and rescue plan, carries specified redundant equipment, and dives within a guided group. Gas analysis is mandatory, and the guide decides whether a scooter (DPV) may be used on a given dive.
Because the cave is strictly protected, the rules forbid taking anything out of the cave and ask divers to avoid touching formations and walls.
The environment
Warm, clear thermal water in large, mostly phreatic (water-filled) passages and halls; the operator describes deep and wide tunnels where sidemount is welcome but not required. Temperatures vary between passages.
Conditions
The operator gives 20-28 °C year-round and very slow flow; research measurements in autumn 2025 were about 20-26 °C.
Typical ranges from published sources, not current conditions.
Facilities
Dive centre with gas fills (air, nitrox, oxygen, trimix for oxygen-clean cylinders), rental equipment, free drinking water, and limited courtyard parking for unloading.
