MUSAN — Museum of Underwater Sculpture
MUSAN, opened off Ayia Napa in 2021, is sculptor Jason deCaires Taylor's underwater forest: concrete trees and human figures — children playing hide-and-seek among trunks, a ranger with a camera — arranged as a walk from shore into the sea's imagination. The pH-neutral sculptures were designed as substrate, and the colonization is the exhibit's second act: algal fuzz softening faces, damselfish nesting in branches, octopus testing the crevices. At ten meters on sand it suits every certification level and photographs like nothing else on the island. Buy the entry through a licensed center; the site is actively managed.
Het moment waar je voor komt: A sculpted forest gaining reef life, shallow relaxed profile, unique photography
Topografie: A sand plain at 8–10 m planted with more than ninety sculptures forming an underwater forest
Instap: Entries off Pernera beach at Ayia Napa through licensed centers; the sculpture trail is laid out for one-way touring.
Weet dit voordat je het water in gaat
Gevaren: Minimal — mind snorkeler traffic above and buoyancy over the sand.
Vergunningen & regels: Access via licensed operators with an entry fee.
Behoud: Touching or sitting on sculptures is prohibited; the installation doubles as habitat restoration on bare sand.
