El Frio is the local big-fish wreck, the trip guides save for divers who ask what else the area hides. The old freezer ship lies broken-backed on the sand at 30 m, far enough offshore that the water runs cooler and greener than the island reefs — bring an extra layer of neoprene and expectations of atmosphere over clarity. The reward is scale: thick black groupers in the holds, barracuda stacked over the superstructure, nurse sharks in the shadowed corners, and eagle rays crossing the sand in winter.
