Hundreds of garden eels lean out of a pale sand slope here like grass in wind, retracting in a slow wave as divers approach and rising again behind them. That simple spectacle, ten minutes' walk from Dahab's cafes, is the point of the dive - but the coral gardens framing the sand hold their own interest: anthias mist over porites heads, octopus hunt the rubble line in late afternoon, and unicornfish hang mid-water off the drop. The site works best shallow and slow; skilled guides route it so the eels appear at the turn, with the sun behind. When the north wind builds, surge across the reef-flat entry makes timing the exit the only real skill required.
