Zero Fighter Wreck

A Japanese A6M Zero fighter sits upright and startlingly complete on the sand of Kimbe Bay, ditched during the war and found by chance decades later when a local spotted it from a canoe. The propeller blades bend back from the hub where they struck the sea, the canopy frame stands open, and coral has begun quiet work on the wingtips. It is a fifteen-minute aircraft on a one-hour dive, so guides pair it with nearby reef, but few dives in PNG deliver more history per meter of depth. Photograph it low and wide, and mind the silt that holds the scene together.
