Depth is the range from the top of the site to its usual maximum; "recommended cert" is the mainstream-agency level operators usually ask for, not a legal rule. Currents and visibility change daily — treat everything here as planning ranges.

The Tascons group is the Medes at their most generous: a scatter of rock heads whose ledges hold something on every meter of a relaxed circuit. Groupers cruise the drop-offs at arm's length, octopus and morays share crevices in apparent truce, and clouds of damselfish shimmer over the shallows while corvina hold the gloom beneath overhangs. Photographers work the walls for nudibranchs and bryozoan gardens; new divers simply follow the topography, which conveniently circles back toward the mooring. If one site explains the park's popularity with every certification level, it is this one.

The moment you come for: Grouper encounters at close range, varied easy topography, macro-rich walls

Topography: A cluster of rocky heads and mini-walls with sand channels, ledges and small caverns

Entry: Fixed moorings over the southern islet cluster, minutes from L'Estartit harbor.

Know before you splash

Hazards: Boat traffic overhead in summer; otherwise a forgiving site.

Permits & rules: Park quota and authorized-center rules apply.

Conservation: No-take reserve; give groupers space rather than crowding them for photos.
