Daha uzun cevap
Both are liveaboard pilgrimages to volcanic specks in the eastern Pacific, and both put big animals in front of you with unusual reliability. What differs is the texture of the encounters.
Socorro — properly the Revillagigedo archipelago, a Mexican national park fully protected since 2017 — is about proximity. The giant oceanic mantas at The Boiler do something documented almost nowhere else: they approach divers deliberately and stay, banking overhead for whole dives. Bottlenose dolphins interact rather than pass through, silky and Galapagos sharks work the blue, and from roughly January to March humpback whales are audible through entire dives and occasionally visible. The season is a hard window — boats run November to June — and every trip starts in Cabo San Lucas with about a day's steaming, some 400 kilometers south.
The Galápagos deals in scale and cast size. Wolf and Darwin serve hammerhead schools year-round; the cool season, June to November, brings huge female whale sharks past Darwin's reef; and the supporting bill — sea lions, penguins, mola, marine iguanas — belongs to no other destination on Earth. The price is sterner conditions: thermoclines into the teens, real current, and the extra moving parts of flights through mainland Ecuador plus park fees and rules that shift more often than Mexico's.
Skill demands are comparable and genuinely advanced. Photographers chasing one perfect manta frame lean Socorro; naturalists who want the whole food web lean the Galápagos.
