Aliwal's baited dives are choreographed open-water encounters: a sealed bait drum goes over the side, the boat drifts, and oceanic blacktip sharks — often dozens — spiral around the scent cone while divers hold a loose midwater line. In the warm months, tiger sharks join with their unmistakable slow authority, and the drift becomes one of the world's premier tiger encounters outside the Bahamas. Nothing is hand-fed and protocols are strict: hands in, dark gloves, tight group, guides managing the traffic. It is an artificial situation, honestly sold as one, and an education in shark behavior no aquarium can match.
