Seven Tree Island
Depth is the range from the top of the site to its usual maximum; "recommended cert" is the mainstream-agency level operators usually ask for, not a legal rule. Currents and visibility change daily, so treat everything here as planning ranges.
Seven Tree Island - named with the local gift for understatement, its crown carrying roughly that many stunted conifers - offers Browning Pass's abundance at a slightly gentler pitch than the famous wall across the channel. Boulder gardens and stepped faces wear the same upholstery of plumose anemones and soft coral, but the terrain creates pockets: swim around a corner and find a Puget Sound king crab armored in orange and purple, a wolf eel's pale face in a den, or an octopus's midden of crab shells announcing the tenant. Kelp greenling and black rockfish supervise. It is the site guides pick for a first God's Pocket dive, and nobody feels shortchanged.
The moment you come for: Boulder-garden dens, king crabs in parade colors, a kinder introduction to Browning Pass
Topography: Sloping walls and boulder gardens off a treed islet in Browning Pass
Current: More forgiving than Browning Wall but still planned around the tide tables.
Know before you splash
Hazards: Current away from slack; cold-water workload.
Who you'll meet
Nudibranchs
Giant Pacific Octopus
Wolf Eel
Humpback Whale
"Charted here" species were listed by our editors from the sources on this page. Counts are GBIF occurrence records: observations logged within about 5 km of the charted position since 1990, matched only against the species in our catalogue. They show what has been seen there, not a promise of what you will see.
