Granito de Oro

Granito de Oro is a speck of an islet - one beach, a few palms - ringed by the busiest shallow reef in Coiba National Park. Whitetip reef sharks are the residents: they stack under ledges and cruise the sand channels in a density that turns first-time shark watchers into converts within minutes, all in less than 15 m of water. Hawksbill and green turtles graze the coral heads, eagle rays flap past the drop, and frogfish squat among the sponges for guides with sharp eyes. Snorkelers work the same reef from above. Rangers limit landings on the islet itself; the reef, mercifully, absorbs its visitors without showing it.
