From the surface the reef rim seems to open into the lagoon here, but the gap is a dead end, and the misdirection gave the site its name. Underwater the false gateway is the good part: surge-carved canyons and swim-throughs braid through the rim, spilling divers out onto a wall that drops with the usual Osprey indifference to scale. Sharks patrol the seam between reef and ocean, dogtooth tuna hang in the current shadow, and on calm days the shallow cuts fill with shafted light that makes every diver look like a movie still.
