Mushroom Forest

On a plateau off Curaçao's wild northwest end, centuries of erosion have undercut the bases of massive star coral heads until each stands on a stalk, a field of ten-foot stone mushrooms scattered across the sand. Divers weave between the caps, finding lobsters, morays, and octopus denned in the shaded stems, while turtles drift overhead through unusually fishy water. The formation covers real acreage, so navigation matters, and guides steer loops that end near the cliffside Blue Room cavern, where snorkelers finish the trip floating in blue-lit shade.
