Where big Strytan is a single monument, Arnarnesstrytur is a village: a shallower field of geothermal cones venting warm fresh water across the fjord slope. The accessible depth stretches dive times, so there is leisure to hover over individual chimneys, feel the temperature flicker between Arctic seawater and vent plume, and watch the residents — lumpfish in season, dense anemone carpets, cod hanging in the warm columns, wolffish jawing from dens among the rocks. For many visitors this ends up the favorite of the two chimney dives: less depth, more time, equal strangeness.
Le moment pour lequel vous venez: Multiple venting cones at friendly depths, lumpfish and wolffish encounters, long bottom times
Topographie: A field of smaller geothermal cones and vents on the fjord slope between roughly 10 and 25 m
Entrée: Short boat run in Eyjafjordur from Hjalteyri; often paired with the deeper main chimney.
À savoir avant de plonger
Dangers: Cold water and mild fjord currents; monitor position across the sloping vent field.
Conservation: The cones are fragile mineral structures within a protected area; maintain clearance at all times.
