Vanessa's is Kimbe's gallery of fans — gorgonians the size of dining tables tiered along a slope, with soft corals filling the gaps and anemone after anemone staked out by combative clownfish. The scale of the sea fans gives wide-angle shooters their frames, but the site's second life is small: pygmy seahorses on selected fans, whip-coral gobies, and nudibranchs that guides here find with unsettling ease. Sheltered inside the bay, it rarely sees current worth naming, so it suits long, slow profiles and repeat visits. It is the kind of reef that rewards a diver who moves ten meters in ten minutes.
The moment you come for: Giant gorgonian fans; pygmy seahorses for patient macro work; anemonefish colonies along the ledges.
Topography: Coral slope and ledges with large gorgonian fans and soft-coral stands
Entry: Sheltered inshore reef; an easy mooring dive on most days.
Know before you splash
Hazards: Few; watch buoyancy beside fans that have grown for decades.
Conservation: Pygmy-seahorse fans die from repeated strobe-and-grab pressure — one look each, no touching the fan, limited flashes.
