Paradise 2 (Mabul)

Paradise 2 is Mabul in miniature and the standing answer to what divers do between Sipadan permits. The unpromising sand-and-seagrass slope carries a critter roster that keeps macro lenses mounted all week: giant and painted frogfish on the bommies, ornate ghost pipefish tilting among crinoid arms, flamboyant cuttlefish on the open sand, plus crocodilefish, snake eels, and seahorses for the systematic. Turtles interrupt at intervals, out of scale with the subject matter. Sixty-minute dives at ten meters, warm water, spotters who know each resident by address; it is the muck counterweight that makes a Sipadan trip complete.
