Maldive Victory

The Maldive Victory, a cargo ship that struck the reef by Hulhulé and sank in 1981, is the central atolls' flagship wreck: upright, largely intact, and deep enough to feel serious. Descending the line, the superstructure resolves first, wrapped in encrusting growth and circled by batfish and snapper; trevally and barracuda work the current shadow, and morays live in the holds where cargo once did. Depth, current, and airport boat traffic make this an advanced dive — and a short one at the bottom — but few wrecks anywhere sit five minutes from an international runway.
