Daedalus Reef
Ninety-odd kilometers off the coast, Daedalus is a lighthouse standing on a reef and nothing else - the most isolated dive in Egyptian water and, in early summer, its most dependable hammerhead rendezvous. Scalloped hammerheads school off the north point from roughly May to August, and the technique is its own ritual: swim out from the wall into featureless blue, hold formation, breathe quietly, and let the schools materialize below like a mobile. The reef repays the crossing even without them. Anemone City on the northern shoulder is a slope of anemones and their fish found in few other places at this scale, the eastern and western walls run with soft coral, and oceanic whitetips take over the boat shadows in fall.
Le moment pour lequel vous venez: Schooling scalloped hammerheads in early summer; Anemone City; the lighthouse visit between dives.
Topographie: An isolated oval reef crowned by a lighthouse, walls on all sides dropping into open sea
Courant: Hammerhead dives hang off the north point in open blue - group discipline is everything.
Entrée: A solitary reef with a lighthouse jetty; zodiacs drop divers up-current and collect them along the walls.
À savoir avant de plonger
Dangers: Blue-water disorientation on hammerhead swims; strong current at the points; total remoteness.
Permis & règlements: Marine-park fees; operators generally require Advanced Open Water and logged-dive minimums.
Nitrox: Intéressant ici — les profils se situent dans la plage où le nitrox prolonge significativement le temps sans palier (avec la formation pour l'utiliser).
