Wheeler is a pocket-sized reef that behaves like a sampler platter of the Great Barrier Reef: hard-coral gardens on the flanks, a calm sandy lagoon in the middle, and bommies dressed in anemones where clownfish run their theatrical routines. Townsville operators use it for training days, snorkel trips, and overnight runs, and its size means one dive can nearly lap it. Turtles and whitetips supply the fauna checklist, garden-variety reef fish supply the color, and the shallow topside makes long, easy dives the default rather than the exception.
