Blade

Blade is exactly what its name promises: a serrated ridge of reef, in places only a few meters across at the top, running like a sunken fin through open water. Divers fly along one flank, cross a notch, and swap to the other side, which doubles the wall frontage of a normal dive. The narrow crest concentrates life, with barrel sponges and fan thickets sprouting from improbably little rock, fusiliers streaming over the notches, and the occasional eagle ray or reef shark passing in the surrounding blue. Its position away from the main reef keeps it lightly dived even by Wakatobi standards. The topography alone justifies the boat ride; the sponge-and-fan growth closes the argument.

Topografie: A long, knife-thin submerged ridge broken into pinnacle segments, dropping steeply on both sides.

Stroming: An open-water ridge; mild days are common, but the exposed position can carry real flow along the crest.

Gevaren: Exposure and current on an offshore ridge; keep the group on the same side of the crest and carry an SMB.
