Roma

Roma is a coral hill with a rush hour. The mound rises from Tomia's reef slope to within a few meters of the surface, its crown a rosette of cabbage and plate corals so dense the structure looks upholstered. Anthias and fusiliers stream around the summit in commuting lanes, redtooth triggerfish flicker in and out of the water column, and trevally arrive periodically to disorganize everyone. Turtles rest on the terraces, sweetlips gather under the plates, and the surrounding sand channels hold garden eels and gobies for variety. Divers spiral the mound upward and finish shallow amid the traffic, usually with generous bottom time left. It distills Wakatobi: no drama, immaculate coral, constant motion.
