Flynn Reef

Flynn Reef is where Cairns day boats go to make the outer reef look easy. Mooring sites around its flanks offer coral gardens in honest condition, giant clams parked among the bommies, anemone cities with their resident clownfish, and turtles that treat dive groups as scenery. Sand channels between coral fingers keep navigation simple for new divers, while photographers work the swim-throughs and overhangs deeper on the wall. It lacks the drama of the ribbons, but as a same-day return trip from a city marina it is remarkably good value.
