Depth is the range from the top of the site to its usual maximum; "recommended cert" is the mainstream-agency level operators usually ask for, not a legal rule. Currents and visibility change daily, so treat everything here as planning ranges.

Santa Rosa is the drift dive Cozumel regulars measure others against. The wall's lip arrives fast, then the current sweeps you along a face cut with swim-throughs and undercuts where sponges grow in slow-motion chandeliers. Big barrel sponges lean out over the void, horse-eye jacks hang off the edge, and in winter spotted eagle rays commute along the drop. The trick is pacing: duck into a tunnel, let the group stream past, rejoin. Depth discipline matters, because the bottom of everything here is a very long way down.

The moment you come for: Sweeping wall drift, swim-through tunnels, barrel sponges, winter eagle rays.

Topography: A sheer wall lip at 15–20 m with tunnels and overhangs, falling past recreational depth into blue.

Current: One of Cozumel's faster rides on spring tides; the current usually carries you north along the face.

Entry: Negative or quick descents are common when the current runs; regroup at the wall lip.

Know before you splash

Hazards: Strong current, depth exceeding recreational limits just below the lip, group separation in the swim-throughs.

Conservation: Marine-park rules apply; stay off the wall face: fin wash strips sponge tissue.

Nitrox: Worth it here: profiles sit in the range where enriched air meaningfully extends no-stop time (with the training to use it).

"Charted here" species were listed by our editors from the sources on this page. Counts are GBIF occurrence records: observations logged within about 5 km of the charted position since 1990, matched only against the species in our catalogue. They show what has been seen there, not a promise of what you will see.
