The Canyon

A crack runs down Dahab's reef slope like a fault line, and dropping into it feels geological: walls close overhead, exhaled bubbles pool silver against the ceiling, and shafts of light cut the dark where the roof opens. Divers enter the Canyon near its shallow end, descend inside to a sandy floor in the high twenties of meters, and exit through a dome of coral nicknamed the Fishbowl, usually escorted by glassfish in their thousands. Deeper sections continue beyond 50 meters for technical teams, but the standard route is a compact, atmospheric tour that pairs naturally with a slow reef return along the slope. It is Dahab's second signature dive after the Blue Hole and, dived mid-week at dawn, arguably the better one.

The moment you come for: Light shafts inside the fissure; the glassfish-packed Fishbowl exit; easy shore logistics.

Topography: A long volcanic-looking fissure in the reef slope, roofed in places, with sand pockets inside

Entry: Entry through a lagoon channel opposite the roadside camps; the fissure opens a short swim down the slope.

Hazards: Overhead sections require good buoyancy and a light; silt stirs quickly on the canyon floor.

Nitrox: Worth it here — profiles sit in the range where enriched air meaningfully extends no-stop time (with the training to use it).
