Wrap around Molokini's rim and the friendly crater vanishes: the outside is a cliff in blue water, dropping past 60 m with nothing beneath your fins but darkening ocean. The dive is a drift along that face — black coral bushes and fans on the rock, jacks and the odd gray reef shark materializing from open water, eagle rays planing the wall, and in winter the constant creak and moan of humpbacks somewhere in the channel. There is no bottom to save a distracted diver, which is the site's entire discipline: watch the gauge, watch the group, and let the wall scroll past like landscape from a train.

Topografie: A sheer volcanic wall plunging past recreational depth into open ocean
Stroming: Ocean currents wrap the crescent unpredictably; some days are still, some sweep.
Instap: Live-boat drift along the crater's ocean face; groups stay tight and fly a DSMB for pickup.
Weet dit voordat je het water in gaat
Gevaren: Bottomless exposure and depth creep; currents that change mid-dive; stay shallow enough that a mistake has somewhere to stop.
Behoud: Same conservation district as the inner bowl — the black coral on the face is protected and grows by millimeters.
Nitrox: Het loont hier — profielen liggen in het bereik waarbij nitrox de no-stop tijd zinvol verlengt (mits je de opleiding hebt om het te gebruiken).
