The Liberty, a Russian-built coastal cargo ship, was cleaned and scuttled off Protaras in 2009 to give the resort coast a proper wreck, and the Mediterranean has spent the years since moving in. Groupers of increasing self-importance patrol the holds, lionfish hang inverted under the deck overhangs, and bream swirl the superstructure in bright water that flatters photographers.
