Thomas Reef
Depth is the range from the top of the site to its usual maximum; "recommended cert" is the mainstream-agency level operators usually ask for, not a legal rule. Currents and visibility change daily — treat everything here as planning ranges.
Smallest of the four Tiran reefs and, for many guides, the prettiest, Thomas concentrates its color into a tight lap: soft-coral terraces, fields of fire coral, and gorgonians leaning into the flow. Below 35 meters a canyon slices along the eastern side, spanned by natural arches and reserved in practice for technical divers - the recreational drift stays higher, riding the walls among snapper, fusiliers, and patrolling whitetips. Because the reef is short, current dictates everything; on a strong exchange the site becomes a fast scenic transit, on slack it rewards slow inspection of the overhangs. Turtles and eagle rays cross the deep edge, and the top reef glows in afternoon light.
The moment you come for: Soft-coral terraces at their densest; the deep canyon and arches for qualified teams; fast, exhilarating drifts.

Current: Current wraps both ends of the small reef and can turn washing-machine quick; listen to the briefing.
Entry: No moorings on the exposed faces - dives run as drifts timed to the tide.
Know before you splash
Hazards: Strong current and eddies; the canyon lies beyond recreational limits; separation risk on busy days.
Permits & rules: Tiran marine-park fee applies.
Nitrox: Worth it here — profiles sit in the range where enriched air meaningfully extends no-stop time (with the training to use it).
