Hanging Gardens

Hanging Gardens takes Sipadan's wall and tilts it past vertical, so terrace after terrace of overhang drips with soft coral in grays, mauves, and dusty oranges, growth hanging downward like planted balconies. It is the island's texture dive. Photographers work the ceilings for longnose hawkfish and flatworms while turtles rest on the terraces at eye level and leaf-shaped batfish hover in the recesses. Sharks pass wider here than at the points, in less of a hurry. When current elsewhere turns the corners feral, this stretch usually stays civilized, which makes it the connoisseur's mid-morning pick.

اللحظة التي جئت من أجلها: Overhanging soft-coral terraces, turtles bedded on the balconies, the island's gentlest marquee wall

التضاريس: Terraced overhanging wall draped in soft coral

التيار: Usually a soft drift along the southwest wall.

المخاطر: Overhangs complicate direct ascent in spots; otherwise benign by Sipadan standards.

التصاريح والقواعد: Permit day required.

الحفاظ على البيئة البحرية: The overhang growth is slow-growing and brittle; exhaled bubbles and fins both leave marks, so trim matters.
